Under the Direction of Todd R. Stefan
The North Allegheny Senior High School Wind Ensemble comprises our top wind and percussion students in grades 11 and 12. Students wishing to be a member of this ensemble must audition in the spring the year before. This ensemble studies, rehearses, and performs a wide range of music including original band works, orchestral transcriptions, modern band compositions, popular music, and marches. Under the direction or Mr. Todd R. Stefan, the NASH Wind Ensemble has participated and competed in many regional and national music festivals, including the Three Rivers Music Showcase, the National Events Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl Concert Band Competition and Adjudication in Atlanta, Georgia, The North American Music Festival in Virginia Beach, VA, Festival Disney in Orlando, Florida, the Windy City Classic in Chicago, Illinois, and has also appeared at the First Annual Youngstown State University Concert Band Clinic and Festival. The ensemble was also named the 2008 Downbeat Magazine Best classical Group; High School Division in the 31st Annual Student Music Awards and was selected to perfom at the 2009 PMEA All-State Conference in Valley Forge, PA
The NASH Wind Ensemble has had the great honor of working with some of the finest music educators and conductors including Dr. Stephen Gage- Director of Bands, the Dana School of Music from Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio, Mr. Ralph Ford- Director of Bands and the world renowned "Sound of the South" Marching Band, the John Long School of Music from Troy University, Troy, Alabama, Mr. Elliot Del Borgo, world renowned composer and arranger, and Dr. Stephen Hawk- Director of the SRU Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble I, Slippery Rock University School of Music, Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Dr. George Naff retired Director of the Duke University Wind Ensemble, Dr. James Umble- Professor of Saxophone the Dana School of Music from Youngstown State University, Dr. Kathryn Umble- Professor of Flute the Dana School of Music from Youngstown State University , and Rodney Winther Director of Wind Studies at the University of Cincinnati.
The band has also had the pleasure of hosting performances by the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music Wind Ensemble, Mr. Gary Oltman-Director of Bands, and the Laureate Wind Quintet from West Virginia University.
